Rail noise monitoring for transit operators

Vehicle-mounted microphones and accelerometers record noise and movement during journeys. Rail teams review synchronized measurements in analysis software and use selected local controls to assess conditioning changes.

About Rail noise monitoring for transit operators

Tram and rail operators investigate noise by comparing what happens at the wheel contact with vehicle movement and location. Parametric combines microphones, acceleration sensors and analysis software for this work. The installation captures synchronized measurements during operation, with selected local control equipment supporting rail conditioning tasks.

The Railway Efficiency Toolkit, or RET, connects measurement nodes with suitable sensors and cloud analysis. Selected nodes record noise, vibration, position and other configured inputs, then perform local preprocessing. The analysis application presents audio, waveforms and patterns in a web interface. A compatible RET1000 node uses LTE for cloud connectivity, while other selected hardware arrangements provide their own communications and acquisition options.

Teams compare recordings from different locations or operating conditions to investigate noise patterns and assess changes. Configured thresholds generate selected alerts, and open interfaces share chosen results with external workflows. A selected control arrangement can trigger vehicle-mounted rail lubrication from local analysis. The connected records support engineering review of noise and vibration and help operators compare the effect of their maintenance or conditioning measures.

Questions and answers

Which measurements were collected in the Bern tram noise project?

The selected RET equipment recorded noise, position and three-axis acceleration to assess noise during tram operation.

How can engineers review recorded sound in the rail analysis application?

They can listen to audio and examine waveforms or colour-coded patterns alongside selected operating measurements.

Which cloud connection is specified for the RET1000 measurement node?

RET1000 has built-in LTE connectivity and internal data storage. The selected project determines how its records are used.

Which rail conditioning action can selected local analysis support?

A compatible control arrangement can trigger a lubrication pump installed on the vehicle using the configured local measurement analysis.

How is this deployment priced?
