An LX80-S radar measures the distance to the snow surface and feeds a station logger through serial outputs. A selected uplink sends readings to HydroView, where staff compare accumulation and melt patterns.
Snow-surface distance measurements give winter operations and water-resource teams a history of local accumulation and melt. Geolux connects the LX80-S radar with a station datalogger and HydroView, the application for measurement graphs, alarms and site records. The instrument measures from above the snow using 80 GHz radar and a narrow 5 degree beam. Its detection distance reaches 15 m, with mounting selected for the measurement area.
The sensor sends readings through RS-485 Modbus, RS-232, SDI-12 or a 4 to 20 mA analogue interface to compatible station equipment. It uses a 9 to 27 VDC supply and includes an IP68 enclosure. The selected logger supplies the onward cellular or satellite data path. HydroView stores the received station readings and displays the chosen measurement history for staff review.
Teams compare depth trends over selected periods and configure the parameter thresholds relevant to their work. Email or SMS alarms reach users subscribed to the chosen categories. CSV and Excel exports provide readings for separate planning or analysis, and station notes retain inspection and maintenance entries. These views support road, railway, resort and hydrological teams reviewing snow conditions at the represented monitoring sites.
