Blade surface damage alerts for wind operators

Acoustic instruments at turbine bases send blade sound through a connected module to analysis software. Wind-farm staff review changed surface-condition signals and choose the blades requiring a visual inspection.

About Blade surface damage alerts for wind operators

Acoustic patterns from rotating blades give wind-farm maintenance teams a record for examining changing surface condition. EOLOGIX-PING's SURFACE HEALTH application uses the ON-TOWER arrangement to analyse sound caused by airflow over damage or disturbances. The monitoring record helps operators identify the turbines that warrant a closer surface inspection.

An Intelligent Listening Sensor, or ILS, mounts at the turbine base with magnets or adhesive. A cable connects it to a separate Power and Communication Module, or PCM. The module handles power and managed LTE-M cellular reporting, with an installation orientation that permits solar charging. Software examines the collected acoustic patterns and changing condition trends. The installation covers at least five turbines, providing the multi-turbine arrangement specified for this application.

Staff review a notification, compare the reported change and organise a visual inspection of the selected turbine. The service also supports monitoring of an existing issue, allowing the team to examine later changes in its acoustic record. Dashboard access, notifications, training and support accompany the supplied hardware package. The inspection establishes the physical defect and its repair requirements, while the recorded sound patterns provide the continuing context for the maintenance review.

How it works

Sense
Capture blade airflow and surface-condition sound at tower bases.
Connect
Relay acoustic records through the cabled module and LTE-M link.
Analyze
Assess changing sound patterns across the monitored turbine group.
Act
Prioritise visual blade checks from the reported condition events.

Does it fit your project?

Best suited to

  • Blade surface inspection teams
  • Existing surface defect follow-up

You need

  • Listening sensors, modules and cables
  • Managed LTE-M cellular service
  • Suitable module solar exposure
  • Visual inspection and repair staff

Limitations

  • Minimum five monitored turbines
  • Requires module orientation for solar charging

Questions and answers

How many turbines must receive SURFACE HEALTH monitoring?

The installation requires at least five monitored turbines.

Can the surface-monitoring hardware fit concrete turbine towers?

Yes. The acoustic instrument supports magnetic or adhesive mounting, with adhesive installation for concrete towers.

Why does the PCM installation position matter for SURFACE HEALTH?

The Power and Communication Module needs an orientation that permits solar charging, alongside the cabled listening instrument.

Is lightning measurement part of the acoustic surface sensor?

Lightning monitoring uses a technical add-on to the PCM. It measures a magnetic-field signal rather than using the acoustic sensor.

How is this deployment priced?

What does a deployment cost?

For 1 site with 10 monitored assets in United States, IoT Apps estimates $1,700 – $5,600 in the first year and $300 – $1,000 every year after. This is an estimate based on comparable deployments, not a quote from EOLOGIX-PING.
