Cellular and RF gateways connect streetlights, traffic signals, water assets and public-safety equipment, giving cities one portfolio for lighting control, congestion and remote monitoring.

Public safety & emergency response depend on conditions and assets that change between scheduled inspections. Changes in equipment condition may emerge without a clear indication of which site, zone, or asset needs attention. Municipal, public-works, and service teams often rely on manual readings and disconnected systems, making it hard to compare current conditions with normal operation. This delays response and increases the chance of downtime, waste, safety exposure, or service disruption.
Digi SmartCities collects equipment condition and operating-state readings across public safety & emergency response and sends the readings to a secure cloud application. Dashboards and configurable rules show asset health, operating state, and abnormal trends, retaining history by site, zone, or asset. This gives municipal, public-works, and service teams the context to inspect or service the affected asset, helping them shorten response time and protect service continuity and document the response.
The solution uses Digi’s wireless modules, gateways (cellular & RF), remote sensors, and routers to connect existing infrastructure like lighting poles, traffic signals, water/wastewater assets, CCTV or public-safety equipment. Data is sent over long-range RF or cellular (including LTE/5G) depending on use case, to cloud/edge platforms such as Digi Remote Manager and Digi X-ON. Features include real-time monitoring & alerts, condition-based maintenance, remote control of devices (e.g. dimming lights, shutting off valves), and support for secure communications and redundancy. Digi also aids in the 2G/3G shutdown transition, providing migration paths to LTE/5G where needed. digi.com+2fr.digi.com+2 Digi SmartCities is used in city lighting systems to reduce energy costs, in traffic management to improve flow and emergency response times, in water/wastewater treatment and infrastructure monitoring (wells, lift stations, sewer systems), and in public safety (cameras, first responder networks, mobile command centers). It is especially relevant in cities with aging infrastructure, tight budgets that need operational efficiencies, rapidly growing populations, or legal/regulatory pressure around environmental impact and public safety.
