Route planning and dispatch for delivery teams

GPS records and order criteria feed software that schedules jobs, assigns vehicles and calculates arrival estimates. Delivery teams monitor progress through a dispatch board and share selected vehicle or timing updates.

About Route planning and dispatch for delivery teams

Route planning and dispatch links the orders a transport team must complete with its available drivers and vehicles. Carota provides TMS, the Transportation Management System, for scheduling, order management and delivery work. Dispatchers use the selected platform to organise jobs, follow progress and review the next task needing assignment or attention.

GPS records provide current movement and selected task-duration information. Order criteria include priority, time windows, date ranges, job duration and driver skills. Scheduling tools match drivers, vehicles and cargo, while the Estimated Dispatch Board presents travel time, distance, vehicle information and assigned itineraries. Connections with enterprise resource planning software, usually called ERP, bring selected business orders into the transport workflow. Built-in messaging shares vehicle information and estimated arrival times.

Dispatchers assign an order to a driver or vehicle and review its progress through the board. Colour-coded labels highlight work needing attention, and filters find records by dispatch identifier, vehicle, driver or destination. Pickup and delivery planning supports selected journeys between locations without an intervening depot visit. These outputs bring order criteria, movement and communication into the daily scheduling and follow-up work of the delivery team.
