The operating reality
VF Corporation, the roughly $12 billion apparel and footwear company, set corporate-wide energy reduction and sustainability goals across its brands in 2012. VF Outlet needed a way to enhance facility maintenance operations, control rising energy costs, and keep driving savings year over year across its stores.
What GridPoint deployed
VF Outlet selected GridPoint's Energy Management Solution and first installed it at 4 pilot locations. Submetering and monitoring devices collect real-time, asset-level energy data, while GridPoint also implements HVAC and lighting controls at each site. GridPoint Energy Manager, GridPoint's cloud software, aggregates that data for alarms, equipment and site diagnostics, and sustainability and project-financial tracking, supported by GridPoint's Energy Advisory Services and Control Support Services for 24/7 site support.
What changed
After the pilot showed immediate results, GridPoint's EMS was extended to a total of 25 VF Outlet stores over two years. Average savings across the fleet exceeded 25%, with individual stores capturing close to 30%, and the rollout achieved better than a 20-month payback. The real-time data has also let VF Outlet set corporate energy policies, avoid peak-demand utility charges, diagnose malfunctioning equipment, verify maintenance repairs, and anticipate when equipment will need replacement.
